In celebration of Omani Industry Day, and in support of the objectives of industrial localization and the strengthening of national supply chains, the National Local Content Office at the Projects, Tenders and Local Content Authority has succeeded in creating investment opportunities across a number of vital sectors. These efforts contribute to enhancing local content, improving the efficiency of national companies, and supporting economic growth in line with the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
Eng. Ghalib bin Amer Al-Hinai, Director General of the National Local Content Office at the Projects, Tenders and Local Content Authority, stated that the Office has achieved a significant milestone during the past period by providing high-quality and strategic industrial investment opportunities that enhance local content and raise the performance efficiency of Omani companies. This has resulted in the creation of more employment opportunities across various sectors and economic units.
Al-Hinai added that the proposed opportunities include the manufacturing of reverse osmosis membranes for water desalination plants, as well as related components such as ring main units, and the manufacturing of electrical transformer parts. They also include opportunities to localize industries related to electrical materials and equipment, which represent a key pillar in supporting infrastructure and public utility projects. In addition, the opportunities aim to increase local content by localizing raw materials used in cable manufacturing and enhancing investment opportunities in the production of consumable materials within the water sector.
He noted that the Office has opened the door for Omani companies to invest in the manufacturing and supply of tires of various types, the production of consumable vehicle spare parts, textiles and footwear, computer manufacturing and office accessories, furniture of all kinds, as well as refrigerators and air conditioners.
In the healthcare sector, Eng. Ghalib explained that the Sultanate of Oman continues its efforts to localize vital industries and enhance self-sufficiency by offering a strategic investment opportunity to localize the production of insulin medicines. This initiative, which falls under the outputs of the National Local Content Lab, includes the transfer of advanced knowledge and technologies in pharmaceutical manufacturing, as well as capacity building for national competencies, in line with government directions to enhance in-country value in priority sectors.
He clarified that the focus on localizing insulin production stems from its critical importance within the healthcare system, its role in strengthening pharmaceutical security, and reducing reliance on imports, in addition to ensuring the sustainable availability of essential medicines—particularly in light of global changes affecting supply chains.
This initiative underscores the commitment of relevant entities to supporting high-quality healthcare investments and encouraging private sector participation in building an integrated healthcare industrial base that contributes to achieving economic diversification objectives and maximizing local content.
Al-Hinai further noted that these opportunities are expected to enhance local content by increasing Omanization rates, empowering small and medium enterprises, encouraging local procurement, and facilitating knowledge transfer and capacity building in advanced industrial and technological fields. This will support sustainable economic growth and reduce dependence on imports.
The Director General of the National Local Content Office emphasized that these investment opportunities were identified following extensive studies and the convening of specialized meetings and laboratories to determine viable opportunities. This approach aligns with efforts to stimulate industrial investment, create an attractive environment for investors, and achieve effective integration between government entities and the private sector—particularly in light of the significance of Omani Industry Day as a national occasion to renew commitment to supporting national products and enhancing their competitiveness in local and regional markets.
As part of the celebration of Omani Industry Day, observed annually on 9 February, emphasis is placed on the pivotal role of national industry in supporting the economy and strengthening local content. In this context, the Projects, Tenders and Local Content Authority has achieved a notable outcome under the National Local Content Lab, represented by the provision of development opportunities, including direct investment opportunities aimed at enhancing local content efficiency. These efforts contribute to creating numerous job opportunities across multiple vital sectors and generating added value for the national economy.
The Local Content Policy aims to create investment opportunities and maximize the utilization of national resources, while enabling national enterprises to become key partners in the journey of sustainable economic development. This is achieved by encouraging companies to rely on local resources in manufacturing processes, prioritizing small and medium enterprises to foster
