Engineering Contracts Forum Reality and Expectations

The Omani Society of Engineers has announced the launch of the Engineering Contracts Forum, scheduled for May 4–5, under the theme “Engineering Contracts: Between Reality and Aspiration.” The event will be held at the JW Marriott Hotel – Madinat Al Irfan, in strategic partnership with the Authority for Projects, Tenders, and Local Content.

This forum is organized as part of the Society’s role in advancing professional and engineering engagement through specialized conferences and forums that contribute to improving the engineering work environment, enhancing project execution efficiency, and strengthening integration among various stakeholders. The Engineering Contracts Forum serves as a specialized professional platform focused on discussing the current state of engineering contracts in the Sultanate of Oman and exploring their future in light of economic and technological changes. It also emphasizes challenges related to project implementation, risk management mechanisms, and the allocation of contractual responsibilities, all aimed at achieving efficiency and sustainability in project outcomes.

The forum aims to enhance mutual understanding among government entities, the private sector, and consultancy firms by showcasing global best practices in project delivery models, discussing legislative and regulatory frameworks, and developing mechanisms for managing claims and disputes. This supports the development of a more efficient and flexible contractual ecosystem.

The forum will feature a series of panel discussions and workshops covering key topics, including the foundations and current status of engineering contracts, challenges associated with project execution, legal considerations and risk management, advanced project delivery models, Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts, as well as project financing and commercial considerations.

The event will bring together a distinguished group of experts, specialists, and decision-makers from government entities, the private sector, and academic institutions, reflecting the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders involved in developing the project sector in Oman.

The forum will also include the presentation of specialized research papers highlighting practical experiences and best practices in engineering contracts, along with discussions on future trends in project environment development, culminating in actionable recommendations to improve execution efficiency and the quality of project outcomes.

This forum reflects Oman’s direction toward enhancing project efficiency and achieving sustainability, in alignment with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, by supporting innovation, developing national capabilities, and improving the business environment in the engineering and project sectors
